Website development for gyms

A gym website has roughly ten seconds to answer three questions: what does membership cost, what classes run and when, and how do I start without a sales pitch. Every independent gym owner knows the moment that wins a member is the trial (the free session, the week pass, the first class) yet most gym sites hide the trial behind a phone call during staffed hours, and the timetable is a PDF from two terms ago. The site built here puts a live timetable, honest prices and a one-tap trial pass at the centre of everything.

Independent gyms and studios compete against budget chains with seven-figure marketing budgets and franchise groups with templated web platforms. What the chains cannot copy is personality and community: the coaches members actually train with, the 6am regulars, the specific programming. A site that shows real coaches, real class energy and real member results converts the exact people who would bounce off a corporate chain site, and it feeds the booking system you already use rather than replacing it.

What customers want

This is what a gym website needs to do.

People visit a gym website to get something done. If your site makes that quick, you get the enquiry. These are the tasks every page is designed around.

  1. 01See the class timetable for this week, live, on my phone
  2. 02Book a class, trial session or induction in under a minute
  3. 03Find membership prices without handing over my email first
  4. 04Check what the gym actually offers: classes, open gym, PT, facilities
  5. 05Read about the coaches before I walk into a room of strangers
  6. 06Freeze, cancel or change my membership without a confrontation

Features

Every feature is chosen for how gyms win work.

Live timetable

This week's classes pulled from TeamUp, Glofox, LegitFit, Momence or your booking platform: class, coach, time, spaces left. Members check it on their phones at 7am; it loads fast, reads clearly, and never shows last term's schedule.

Class booking

Booking, waitlists and cancellations embedded from your existing platform, so a member goes from timetable to booked in two taps. The site adds the front door; your booking system keeps doing its job underneath.

Free trial sign-up

The free session, day pass or intro week, claimed with a short form (name, contact, preferred session) that confirms instantly and follows up. This is the most valuable sign-up on any gym site, and it works at 11pm when nobody is at the desk.

Join, freeze and cancel online

Every membership tier published with exactly what it includes, joining handled by your direct debit provider, and freeze or cancellation terms stated plainly. Transparent terms reduce the confrontational desk conversations and build the trust that turns a trial into a year.

Coach profiles

Coaches with qualifications, specialisms, class schedules and honest photos. Members join gyms but stay for coaches, and a coach's page is often the deciding tab in the comparison between you and the chain across the road.

Results and community stories

Member transformations and progress stories, published with written consent, with the programme and timeframe stated honestly. This content outperforms every adjective on the page, and it is the material members share in their own group chats.

What gym websites look like today

Budget chains win on price and franchises on polished templates, so most independent gym sites end up as an Instagram bio link with a pricing table nobody updates. Meanwhile the boutique studios winning locally all share the same pattern: live timetable, instant booking, visible coaches, and a trial you can claim at midnight. The technology is not expensive. Most gym sites were simply built as brochures when they needed to work like a front desk.

How customers find you on Google

'Gym near me' and 'gym [town]' searches show Google's map results first, ranked on reviews and distance, and your site turns that click into a member with the timetable and free trial. The pages that rank are specific to each type of training: 'CrossFit [town]', 'Pilates [town]', 'boxing gym [town]', 'personal trainer [town]', each a dedicated page with the relevant coaches, schedule and pricing. Over time, people search for your classes by name, and a fast timetable page becomes the link members share most after your Instagram.

Rules and regulations we cover

Membership pricing and contract terms are published in full (minimum terms, freeze rights and cancellation process) which keeps the site aligned with the CMA's expectations on subscription contracts. Transformation content is published only with written member consent and never with promised outcomes, and any health claims in class descriptions stay honest about what exercise does and does not do.

Fits your setup

Your new site works with the tools gyms already use.

  • TeamUp, Glofox, LegitFit, Momence and other booking platforms
  • Direct debit platforms (GoCardless, Harlands)
  • WhatsApp and member community groups
  • Mailchimp or native email for member communication
  • Google Business Profile with review capture
  • Social feeds for class content

Questions

Here are answers to what gyms ask before starting.

TeamUp, Glofox, LegitFit and Momence all integrate cleanly, and any platform with an embeddable widget or API will work. If you have not chosen a platform yet, we will tell you which two are worth trialling for your class model. We have no stake in any of them.

Yes, where your platform allows guest or pay-as-you-go booking: class passes and drop-ins should be buyable with the fewest possible steps. Membership sign-up still uses your platform's direct debit sign-up, built into the page so it never feels like leaving the site.

The trial form works around the clock: the visitor picks a session type and preferred times, gets instant confirmation, and the request lands in your inbox or booking platform for the morning. Roughly a third of trial claims happen between 9pm and 8am: calls you were never going to get.

Yes. Eight-week challenges, foundations courses and workshop events each get their own page with dates, price, what is included and a booking route. Time-boxed programmes are often a studio's best-margin product, and they deserve real pages rather than an Instagram story.

Where your booking platform shares class capacity, the timetable shows spaces left per class. Scarcity is honest and it works: a class showing two spaces fills faster than one showing nothing. Where it does not, the timetable simply links straight into booking.

Class and community content can feed through to the site, but the site is deliberately built to work without it: timetable, booking, prices and trial are all first-class content you own. Social platforms come and go; your booking pages are what you own.

Three to four weeks. The timetable and booking integration is usually live within the first fortnight because the platforms are built for it. Coach photography and any challenge or course content are collected in week one so nothing blocks launch.
